Legacy explores how landscape design can create places that endure beyond the immediate needs of their time. It considers the responsibility of designers to shape environments that are adaptable, resilient, and capable of responding to changing social, environmental, and cultural conditions.

Journey examines the ways in which movement through a landscape shapes our understanding, enjoyment, and memory of place. While function and aesthetics are often prioritised within the design process, the experience of travelling through a space, whether physical, visual, sensory, or emotional, is fundamental to how landscapes are perceived. This lecture explores how designers can choreograph sequences of spaces, views, thresholds, and moments of discovery to create engaging and meaningful experiences. Drawing on examples from gardens, public spaces, and cultural landscapes, it considers how the design of journeys can influence behaviour, encourage exploration, evoke emotion, and foster a deeper connection between people and their environment.

Memory investigates the profound relationship between landscape, remembrance, and human experience. Landscapes have the unique ability to hold stories, preserve cultural identity, and evoke personal and collective memories. Whether through memorials and commemorative spaces, the retention of historic features, or subtle design interventions that encourage reflection, designers can create environments that resonate far beyond their physical form. This lecture explores how memory can inform the design process, shaping places that connect past, present, and future. Through a range of international case studies, it considers how landscapes can become repositories of meaning, enabling individuals and communities to reflect, remember, and strengthen their relationship with place and history.
